Bruce McAllister
Over the decades Bruce McAllister’s short stories have appeared in the fantasy and science fiction field’s major magazines, “year’s best” anthologies (including BEST AMERICAN SHORT STORIES 2007), literary quarterlies, and college textbooks; received a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship; and been a finalist for the Hugo, Nebula, Locus and Shirley Jackson awards. He is the author of two earlier novels, Humanity Prime and Dream Baby, and of a career-spanning short-story collection, The Girl Who Loved Animals and Other Stories.
The son of a career Navy officer and an anthropologist mother, he lived for two of his teenage years in Liguria, Italy, the setting of The Village Sang to the Sea, attending middle-school there, and has often written about Italy in his fiction. After a teaching career at university in southern California, he is now a full-time writer, writing coach and book and screenplay consultant.
