Emily Carman
Emily Carman is assistant professor and co-head of the Film Studies program in the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University. Her book, Independent Stardom: Freelance Women in the Hollywood Studio System, is forthcoming on UT Press and she is co-editor of the forthcoming Hollywood and the Law for BFI/Palgrave Press. Her published work has also appeared in various scholarly peer-reviewed journals, including Celebrity Studies, Women’s Studies: An interdisciplinary Journal, and Quarterly Review of Film and Video. In addition to her scholarly pursuits, she has worked for various motion picture archives and cultural institutions, including the Warner Bros. Archives of the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California, where she was the curator responsible for the preservation of the collection and its public access for research, the Academy Film Archive, L’Immagine Ritrovata at the Cineteca di Bologna in Italy, and the UCLA Film and Television Archive.
